Amid speculation that state Rep. Sean Shaw could run for Attorney General in 2018, another Democrat has opened a campaign account to run in Shaw’s House district.
Byron Keith Henry opened an account Thursday to run next year in Hillsborough County’s House District 61, according to the state Division of Elections website.
In October, Florida Politics first reported that Shaw was considering an AG bid.
Shaw said he’s been encouraged by Democrat Party leaders to run. Part of his motivation is that he’s upset about “what’s continuing to happen in Washington — every day it’s worse and worse.”
“The president is not only inept, he’s pre-judiced, he’s a narcissist, he’s angry, he’s not fit to be president,” Shaw told William March for the Tampa Bay Times. “State attorney generals are a line of defense.”
Still, Shaw has a campaign account to seek re-election to the House. He had raised $60,675 as of Nov. 30, a finance report shows.
