For many, the best part about the Super Bowl is not the football, but watching the slick ads that air in between the action on the gridiron.
House Speaker Richard Corcoran, who is widely expected to launch a bid for Florida governor after the 2018 Legislative Session, may not be spending the $5 million it costs to air a spot in this year’s contest, but he just went live with a rather funny football-inspired commercial.
The one-minute commercial features the flag football team-sized Corcoran family and offers a glimpse into what it must be like to live with a political animal like Corcoran.
“Dad, are you gonna stop talking and call a play?” one of Corcoran’s daughters asks after her dad reminds the kids that Pitbull doesn’t deserve our tax dollars.
“But, Dad, I like Pitbull,” says Corcoran’s teenage son.
The funniest part of the ad comes at the end. After a slow-motion shot — the late Steve Sabol couldn’t have produced it better – of Corcoran zinging a long throw to his kids, he runs down the field and starts up again with the political talk.
“But remember what’s the greatest threat to your freedom and liberty?” Corcoran asks.
“Big government and big corporations,” the family begrudgingly recites as it walks away from a dad who clearly loves his kids — and politics.
Update – Corcoran has sent an email with the video embedded. In the email, he writes, “as a Bucs fan, a team that is undefeated in the Super Bowl, I’m pulling for the Eagles to get their first championship. I also can relate to the feeling of being an underdog. You think going up against Belichick, Brady, and the New England Dynasty is tough? Try taking on the unions, corporate special interests, their armies of high paid lobbyists, and the liberal elites all at the same time!”
“Here’s the good news – the Florida House is doing just that, and we’re winning!” writes Corcoran.
