Chris King’s daughter takes star turn in new TV ad

Mary Grace King

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chris King has yet to capture the imagination of surveyed likely voters, but he hopes recent forays into television advertising reverse that trend.

His latest spot, “Mary Grace,” introduces a special guest star into the sunny and upbeat narrative of the Central Florida businessman’s campaign. The spot will air in Jacksonville (where King spent time in recent days), Orlando (his strongest market), and West Palm Beach.

“In the spot, King’s 9-year-old daughter helps share her dad’s bold, progressive policies on gun safety, healthcare and Florida’s environment,” asserts the King campaign in a Wednesday afternoon media release.

The spot includes attempts at humor, such as when Ms. King gets flummoxed while reaching for a cookie when the gravelly-yet-engaging male voiceover intones that “Chris King won’t take a dime from Big Sugar corporations…”

Once assured that her father only intends to “keep our environment clean,” and that she can “still have cookies,” the relieved Mary Grace calls out a joyous “Chris King for Governor!”

Likely primary voters don’t seem to share Mary Grace’s enthusiasm. The candidate, per the latest poll Florida Politics commissioned, hovers at 3 percent in the polls, fifth in a five-person field.
