Pinellas County Commissioner Dave Eggers will serve on the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation Board of Directors, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis announced Thursday.
“My mission is to ensure that every child has access to health coverage so that we can keep our kids safe and healthy,” Patronis said. “I look forward to working with Commissioner Eggers to achieve this goal.”
The Florida Healthy Kids Corporation is a non-profit public-private partnership that seeks to expand access to affordable health insurance for kids. The organization, created by the Florida Legislature, administers Florida Healthy Kids, which is a health and dental insurance program for Florida children ages five through 18.
The organization is governed by its Board of Directors and that group is chaired by the Florida CFO.
“I’m thrilled to join the Florida Healthy Kids board,” Eggers said, thanking Patronis for his trust in his leadership. “I know there is a great deal of work to be done to make sure every child has coverage, but I know with great leadership we can achieve it.”
Eggers will continue serving on the Pinellas County Commission where he was elected in 2014 and re-elected last year. Eggers also serves on the board of the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority.
Eggers is one of just three Republicans on the seven-member Board of County Commissioners and has proven adept at working across the aisle and building consensus.
“Having Commissioner Eggers join the board will absolutely add value and help further our mission to ensure that no child in Florida goes without health coverage,” said Stephanie Haridopolos, chair of the Florida Healthy Kids board. “CFO Jimmy Patronis made an excellent choice and look forward to working with him on important health care issues facing our state.”
Eggers will fill the vacancy on the board of directors for the sole appointee from the Florida Association of Counties.
