Former House staffer Jesse Purdon has raised $22,025 in the first weeks of his own run for office.
“I am thrilled by the early response we have received,” he said. “Considering we did not file our candidacy until midmonth, I am honored by this very strong showing support.”
The Bonita Springs Republican, running to succeed state Rep. Ray Rodrigues in District 76, announced last month. He held his first fundraiser at Bonita Village Clubhouse on June 25.
The host committee included such prominent political leaders as state Sen. Kathleen Passidomo, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno and state Rep. Byron Donalds.
Donations to Purdon’s account chiefly came from the region, though he did get dollars from the Conservatives for Effective Government committee.
That was reported alongside donations from Bonita companies like Beach Storage, Donrey, Sun Village Realty and Bonita Development Company.
Naples companies like Cottrell Title Company, KFE-Consulting and Associated Contracting, offered checks to the campaign.
“I’ve been meeting with folks all over Southwest Florida since my announcement from the business community, the environmental community and nonprofits,” Purdon said.
“It’s been a whirlwind but I have enjoyed every minute.”
He faces Sanibel City Council member Jason Maughan, who has raised upward of $100,000 since entering the race in February.
And Bonita Springs small business executive Adam Botana just entered the contest this month.
“This is going to be a competitive race and it is imperative that we have the resources needed to share our message with voters throughout the district,” Purdon said.
Purdon worked as Deputy District Director for former U.S. Rep. Curt Clawson. Now he’s working to boost his own brand.
“No one is going to outwork me, you can take that to the bank,” Purdon said.
“I’m going to win this on the doorsteps of SWFL. I just did the 4th of July parade in Bonita and shook damn near every hand along the route.”
