Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer announced Monday he will seek a third term. Latimer was first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016.
Latimer’s focus in office continues to center on confidence in elections and his office focuses on transparency and accountability. Latimer’s efforts earned him the Governor’s Sterling Award in 2015. Latimer was the first official in that job to earn the state’s highest award for performance excellence.
Since that recognition, Latimer has taken on a mentor-like role among other supervisors in the state. He serves as president-elect of the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections.
He regularly speaks at conferences including those for the International Association of Government Officials, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, the Election Center, the Knight Foundation and others on topics that include multilanguage ballots, polling place management, voter engagement, and election technology.
Latimer was elected to office after a 35-year career in law enforcement. He retired as a major from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 2008.
Latimer serves on the board of the Central Florida Behavioral Health Network and the Tampa Catholic High School Board of Trustees and is a chair emeritus of BAYS Florida. Latimer also serves as an honorary commander for the 6th Medical Group at MacDill Air Force Base.
Latimer was re-elected four years ago without opposition. He won his first election after defeating former Tampa City Council member Tom Scott in a primary and went on to defeat former Rep. Rich Glorioso in the General.
So far, Latimer is running for his third term unopposed.
