Former Ocean Ridge Mayor Jim Bonfiglio will be in Tallahassee this week to raise money for his second run in House District 89.
Bonfiglio was the Democratic nominee for the seat in 2018 but lost to now-Republican Rep. Mike Caruso by a razor thin margin — after a recount, just 32 votes decided the race.
With a presidential race in play in 2020, Bonfiglio is looking for a boost in Democratic votes to help him turn the district blue for the first time since it was redrawn ahead of the 2012 elections.
Thus far, he has remained competitive with Caruso on the fundraising trail, but it has taken $40,000 in candidate loans to do so.
To keep the pressure on, he’ll need to get his outside fundraising operation off the ground. His campaign plans to jump-start the effort with a 5:30 p.m. fundraising reception across from the Capitol at Andrew’s Restaurant, 228 S. Adams St.
The campaign suggests donors come prepared to chip in $250.
The fundraiser invitation is below.
