Families in need will not have to worry about going hungry during the Christmas holiday, as the 25th annual Farm Share Holiday Food Giveaway is coming up.
The giveaway is Dec. 13 at the Faith Baptist Church in New Port Richey, and includes fresh food, meat and other items offered by Florida farmers. Families are provided with food they need so they can have a full meal without having to worry about what to eat or how they can afford a meal for everyone in the house.
With the help of volunteers and donations made from other families, Farm Share can deliver over 40,000 pounds of fresh food to over 1,000 families.
“In addition to food donated by Florida farmers, we purchase hams, potatoes, canned goods and candy canes to supplement the fresh produce,” says Tax Collector Mike Fasano. “We are blessed to partner with so many generous individuals and organizations whose support makes this giveaway possible. When so many Floridians are hurting, it is wonderful to see our community come together to serve others.”
Companies such as Publix, Ferman Chevrolet, Land O’ Lakes Moving & Transport, Bear Creek Nursing & Rehab Center, Dayspring Academy, Lowe’s and The Volunteer Way, will donate and prepare the foods for these families along with Farm Share.
Established in 1991, Farm Share annually distributes fresh food in Florida for free to families in need. For every dollar spent, it donates 10 pounds of food.
Since 1991, the charity has donated over 500 million pounds of food to families throughout the state.
