President Donald Trump has selected Judge John Badalamenti to serve as a federal judge in the Middle District of Florida.
Badalamenti currently sits on Florida’s 2nd District Court of Appeal. He was selected for that position in 2015 by former Gov. Rick Scott.
The White House announced the selection Monday. Badalamenti’s must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate before his appointment is final.
Judge Badalamenti has experience in the Middle District of Florida, formerly serving as an Assistant Federal Public Defender there. During that time, he argued cases in front of the Middle District of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Prior to his position as a public defender, Badalamenti worked as an associate at the law firm Carlton Fields, P.A. He earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Florida. Badalamenti also received his J.D. from the UF Levin College of Law.
The Middle District of Florida cuts from Fort Myers to Jacksonville, covering Orlando and Tampa as well.
Badalamenti was one of two judges nominated by Trump Wednesday. Illinois Cirucit Judge Stephen P. McGlynn was also selected to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
