AFP Poll: Floridians want more economic, educational opportunity

afpflorida

Americans for Prosperity released a poll on Monday that shows substantial majorities of Floridians in favor of priorities backed by the Koch Brothers-funded political group. Among the top-line findings from the poll, available here:

  • 73 percent of Floridians in support of school choice broadly construed, including 58 percent supportive of a voucher system in particular;
  • 85 percent who said it was “unfair for utility bills to be higher so their neighbors can have solar panels”;
  • 57 percent opposed to President Obama’s EPA regulations on coal-fired power plants;
  • 68 percent responding affirmatively to the question of whether new state employees should be placed in defined-contribution, 401k-style retirement plans rather than receive a pension; and
  • a mere 13 percent in favor of tax incentives to bring Hollywood feature film shoots to Florida, with 70 percent indicating that “Hollywood films do not create long-term, good-paying jobs for Floridians.”

The poll was conducted by the Alexandria, VA-based Tarrance Group, founded and run by veteran strategists of the National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee.

The results likely foreshadow AFP’s political action this legislative session in Tallahassee, where many lawmakers are members of the group’s affiliated American Legislative Exchange Council.
