Former Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Ananth Prasad is going back to the Missouri-based consulting firm he left to head the state agency.

HNTB Corporation announced Prasad has returned to lead the firm’s transportation practice, concentrating on working with state transportation departments.

Prasad, a professional engineer, spent two years with HNTB prior to taking the FDOT position in 2010; he will be based in the HNTB Tallahassee office.

In April 2011, Gov. Rick Scott tapped Prasad to run the state agency, stepping down on Jan. 2.

Scott named Jim Boxold, the department’s chief of staff, as Prasad’s successor.

HNTB specializes on infrastructure projects, with services such as planning, design and construction management, according to a statement on Prasad’s hiring.
