Jacksonville has now recorded more than 51,000 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic in March, according to Florida Department of Health data released Tuesday.
There are a total of 51,112 COVID-19 infections in Jacksonville. It’s a dramatic increase of nearly 7,000 cases in just the past two weeks. There were 44,450 cases as of Dec. 1.
Jacksonville recorded no new coronavirus deaths Tuesday, holding steady at 685, which marked a 17% increase over the reported death toll two weeks ago.
Jacksonville also saw a notable increase in the positive test rate Tuesday. Out of the residents who were tested in Jacksonville, 10.69% of them were positive. That’s the highest figure in the past two weeks with the next highest rate reported on Dec. 1 at 10.53%.
The positivity test rate fell below 10% every day in between the high marks in Jacksonville. The average positive test rate for the past two weeks is 8.8%.
Clay County also saw its highest positive test rate in the past two weeks at 12.83%. Clay’s positive test rate has fluctuated in the past two weeks with a low of 6.32% Dec. 10 and an average rate of 9.94% over the past 14 days.
Clay’s total case count increased to 9,328 Tuesday with three additional deaths for a total of 169.
Baker County also recorded two new coronavirus-related deaths for a total of 36 and a positivity rate of 9.35% and 2,211 total cases.
St. Johns County has 10,542 total cases with no new deaths, holding at 106 and a 10.78% positivity test rate.
The five-county First Coast region now has 76,986 total COVID-19 infections and 1,059 deaths caused by the virus.
In Florida, there are now 1,143,794 people who’ve been infected with coronavirus and 20,365 people who’ve died from it.
