Oh, Canada? The Lincoln Project pleads for Proud Boys terror tag

Can Joe Biden's DOJ draw the line?

A group of Republican political operatives who came together to end the Donald Trump era are now gunning for a cohort of the President’s backers.

The Lincoln Project urged the Justice Department of President Joe Biden to designate the Proud Boys as a terror group. Canada made such a designation this week, but thus far no moves in that direction have come from the nascent Democratic administration.

The group offered a statement.

“This week, the Canadian government responsibly announced it has officially classified the Proud Boys — one of the main groups who participated in the attempted coup of the United States Government on January 6th — as a terrorist organization. We commend Canada for their decision and strongly encourage the United States Justice Department to follow their lead,” they said.

“There is no place in the United States for extremism, White nationalism, or violence against our government, democratic processes, or citizens. It is past time for our country to send the same message Canada has sent and put these groups on notice that their evil, divisive, hateful actions are not welcome here and will not be tolerated on American soil.”

The Lincoln Project coming out against the Proud Boys is no surprise, as the group’s outrage has only been more heightened in the wake of the siege of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. They renewed calls for impeachment of the 45th President within hours of that spectacle.

“This is no longer simply about Donald Trump’s charade. It is an armed, violent, and planned insurrection against the United States of America. It is a moment where the tenets of Trumpism replaced the tenets of American democracy with the inevitable, violent results,” they urged last month.

While an impeachment trial appears fruitless, the war on Trumpism and its more sordid allies clearly soldiers on.

As a long time Los Angeles Proud Boy I am aghast at this slur. Proud Boys stand for Trump, against Antifa and other derelicts. We oppose the homeless as dangers to public health. We stand tall.

Trump 2024. Trump. Glory Trump, Glory.
