Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater will hit the pavement this weekend to support Republican state Rep. Travis Hutson in his campaign for Senate District 6.
Atwater will be part of a St. Augustine canvassing event on Saturday, January 17. District 6 covers St. Johns, Flagler and Putnam counties and parts of Volusia County.
“I am proud to walk door to door with Travis,” Atwater said. “And encourage the voters of Northeast Florida to support him on Election Day,” Atwater said.
Atwater called his fellow Republican “a genuine conservative who wants to reduce waste, decrease government spending, and create and bring more jobs to our great state.”
As a lifelong resident of Northeast Florida, Hutson “knows what is best” for SD 6, he said.
Atwater concluded by saying, “Travis is the Republican candidate for this job.”
Hutson responded that he was “thrilled” with Atwater’s support on Saturday.
“We share many of the same values and beliefs,” he said. “And are both conservatives who are determined to do what is best for the First Coast and all Floridians.”
In addition to Atwater, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, former St. Johns County state Rep. Bill Proctor, State Attorney R.J. Larizza, and Sheriffs David Shoar and Ben Johnson have endorsed Hutson in his SD 6 campaign. St. Johns County Tax Collector Dennis Hollingsworth, Flagler County Clerk of Court Gail Wadsworth, former St. Johns County Commissioners Mark Miner and Ray Quinn and state Rep. Cary Pigman also support Hutson.
Hutson previously served House District 24, which includes Flagler County and parts of St. Johns and Volusia counties. He was elected in 2012 and was subsequently re-elected.
In the GOP primary scheduled for January 27, Hudson faces Dennis McDonald and state Rep. Ronald “Doc” Renuart. The winner goes up against Democrat David Cox in the special general election on April 7.
