Florida Space Day comes to Tallahassee again this March, in the annual event featuring aerospace industry representatives under the theme of “Transforming the Business of Space in Florida.”
Reps will visit the State Capitol on March 25 to participate and share with legislators the many opportunities aerospace offers both Florida and the national space program.
“Florida continues to transform the business of space,” said former NASA astronaut Andy Allen, chair of Florida Space Day 2015. “Space operations and facility upgrades are progressing at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) including commercial operations in suborbital and low-Earth orbit, as well as national program initiatives involving Orion and the Space Launch System for deep space human exploration.”
“This transition in the space business arena impacts all of Florida, not just the Space Coast,” Allen added.
With nearly 500 aerospace companies employing over 30,000 high-tech professionals, Florida has the third largest space industry in the United States.
As part of Space Day, industry leaders and other aerospace experts meet with Gov. Rick Scott and legislators to promote the state’s $9 billion space industry. On the agenda are strategies for economic development policies to attract private sector investment and jobs that ensure Florida remains competitive challenges in the future.
Among Florida Space Day participants include the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Associated Industries of Florida (AIF), The Boeing Company, Brazil-Florida Chamber of Commerce, Craig Technologies, Dynamac Corporation, Florida Institute of Technology, Lockheed Martin, Millennium Engineering & Integration, Space Coast Launch Services, Space Florida, SpaceX, United Launch Alliance (ULA) and Vencore.
