Nikki Fried says media ‘created’ Ron DeSantis in explaining poll deficit
Conflict for Governor, Commish.

DeSantis Fried 3.25.21
'Look, the press has given him so much.'

Gov. Ron DeSantis routinely bashes the media for favoring Democrats over him, but one of his challengers this year says he’s got it backwards.

In an appearance on the left-of-center Stuttering John Podcast, Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried fumed about a media that “created” DeSantis just as it did former President Donald Trump.

She contended that in the event she gets the Democratic nomination, though, the money will find her campaign and buoy her prospects in the General Election.

“Look, the press has given him so much,” Fried fulminated. “They’re doing to him what they did to Trump. They created this. And so every day there’s a million and one articles about DeSantis, a million and one things about DeSantis, on TV and on whatnot.”

Fried concedes she is “behind him in the polls,” but predicted that “as soon as the independents and moderate Republicans start to wake up that there’s a November election, we know those polls are going to significantly close.”

“My name ID isn’t universal,” Fried conceded, but she expects consolidation should she win the Primary, which is still in doubt.

“All eyes are on Florida. The money comes in. Significant money is going to come into the state. He is the bogeyman of the country right now. More so than even Trump. So we know that money is going to flow into the state,” Fried predicted.

By most metrics of the race, Fried is in second place in the Democratic Primary behind U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist, who is ahead of Fried and state Sen. Annette Taddeo in polls and fundraising.

Pitted against DeSantis in hypothetical one-on-one matchups, polls indeed have shown a Fried deficit against the incumbent Governor. The Real Clear Politics poll tracking shows Fried down nearly 13 points on average to DeSantis.

    Ok, let’s square this.
Gov Ron runs for Congress and wins in large fielded primary, coming out of nowhere.
Mounts underdog campaign for Gov. against party fav and defeats him. Runs vs the chosen elites candidate Gillium who acted as he was entitled by Soros and ultra left. Media fawned over Gillium and America’s Gov wins! Nothing entitled, just earned by DeSantis.

Niki Fraud is the fluke. She’s in total liberal bubble meltdown. Regardless of who wins Dem primary, America’s Gov stands tall and will be re-elected! Fried’s bellicose manner has been to her detriment. She is to extreme. Chameleon crisp is a flip flopper. Neither passes the smell test. Losers. America’s Gov, the whiz kid winner.

Nikki has got to start playing the long game. She calculates that her campaign is in its death throes (with three agonizing months ahead), and she must do whatever she can to resuscitate it. But spitting at her only friends, Florida’s far left media types, is not going to do the job, and it is only going to come back on her four, eight or twelves years from now when she struggles to regain some sense of political purpose. But maybe she has decided her race is well and truly run, and she deserves the chance to just settle back with a toke and watch the world go by.

If only Democrats could ever catch a break from the mainstream media.

  • Inspection sticker with seal? Nope! Full color photo of me!

    May 18, 2022 at 3:53 pm

Indeed, after all the attempts she’s made to force her name into the public eye, mainly the stickers on every gas pump, nobody really knows, or cares, who she is. I’m curious how much it costed to do full color prints of your picture and name on that inspection picture?

I bet it’s paid off, having your name associated right next to massive fuel prices.. worked out well!

If you travel the country, you see plenty of pictures of politicians on things their office inspects. The one that struck me was Cheryl Berry in NC. Her smiling face was in every single elevator. In my opinion, the picture makes them more accountable. Most Floridians wouldn’t be able to tell you what Adam Putnam looked like in 2014. He had some level of anonymity. Ms. Fried did not.

DeSantis will continue to make absurd statements and try to initiate extreme ideas. It’s what gets the media’s attention. Media exposure whether good or bad keeps his name out there.

For the left to complain about the media is the funniest thing I have ever heard. They really are completely out of touch with reality.
This little girl doesn’t have a chance in hell at beating Ron.

Well this article definitely didn’t paint a very accurate picture… the polls actually show Fried gaining on DeSantis with the most recent pole on the referenced site from the end of March 2022 showing a tie between Fried and DeSantis. Meanwhile the same site shows that Christ hasn’t been even close to DeSantis since Aug of 2021 and more recent polls showing him way down compared to DeSantis. The poll data quoted in the article was averaged polls over almost a year neglecting to identify the trend that Fried is actually gaining significantly. That being said, the polls won’t really give us a good picture what’s going to happen until after the Dems pick a candidate and I expect DeSantis should have a sizable lead (regardless of what these polls say) over either candidate until then.

Fried or Christ, the Dems have centrist candidates while DeSantis is Far right and tries to brand all Dems as Far (Extremist) left. Christ and Fried both have taken positions supported by the Majority of Floridians so as the election comes closer both stand a chance of unseating DeSantis.

The only reason DeSantis won his last election was because the R’s and the Right wing media pushed the false narrative that his opponent was under investigation for corruption pushing DeSantis for a win by only a fraction of a percent; when it turned out months later when the investigation broke his opponent was actually working to root out corruption in Tallahassee(as he claimed) and was in no way a suspect or related to any suspect from that investigation.

I’m an independent and have watched for the last 25 years of exclusive republican rule in FL as the party has become more corrupt, falling on culture war legislation, fears, and lies to keep their base on board while they rake in the money from self dealing and corporate favors. I’d like to see some balanced representation in Florida that forces politicians to serve the people instead of themselves… That phrase absolute power corrupts absolutely is what we are experiencing after 25 years with republicans with absolute power over Florida.

    • ...how exactly?

      May 18, 2022 at 6:38 pm

I’m sorry, as an Independent too, I’m wildly surprised by your incredibly disconnected view on Andrew Gillum. More over, you forgot to mention less than a month after losing the election, he was found nude, wandering a hotel room which had crystal meth. He ended up entering rehab. I’m not exactly clear on how he was “rooting out corruption.” Was this a sting operation?

      I’d say we dodged one.

“Gillum was one of three men, one of whom was suffering from a drug overdose, who were found with “plastic baggies of suspected crystal meth” in a hotel room in Miami Beach; however, no arrests were made. The person who overdosed has been reported by numerous outlets as a gay male escort. Initially, Gillum was too inebriated to speak with police.”

“I’m wildly surprised by your incredibly disconnected view on Andrew Gillum. More over, you forgot to mention”… my post wasn’t about Andrew Gillum’s going into severe depression after losing the election. He got himself a drug addicted prostitute (As many politicians and regular people do) and drank way too much but at that time he was a private citizen who held no office. The only reason I brought him up was to point out that the election tipping toward DeSantis by a small margin would likely not have gone that way if not for the successful misinformation campaign against Gillum.

That being said the Dems should have never run Gillum but the Dems are rather inept when it comes to campaigning.

Non of that changes my opinion as relayed in my previous post about the R’s in Florida and the need for balance and accountability; while one party rules for decades there is neither. If I had my way we’d have ranked choice voting and a diverse political representation that included 1/3 minor parties/independents, 1/3 Dems, and 1/3 republicans.

It is a shame we didn’t elect a guy that gets caught in a motel, strung out on meth, having a P&P party with a gay male prostitute.
Yeah, it is a real shame we didn’t end up with that guy!

AC, 3 out of 4 most recent polls have America’s Gov up on Nikki Fraud by 10 to 20 pts. Independents, Hispanics and Repubs support the Gov by very strong margins across the board. DeSantis owns the center, right 0f the political spectrum. Fried is fringe, she’s bellicose and out of step. Her corruption is deep and will be held to sunlight. Her liberal scream falls on deaf ears. More importantly you mislead on why Gov Ron won. He pledged and delivered on the public school scholarship expansion. Hispanics and African Americans voted for Desantis and provided the difference on this issue period.

AC you demean the many great accomplishments that America’s Gov accomplished. From Covid to economy, jobs, judges, across the board tax cuts, state financial reserves, and more. Gillium is disgraceful. Chameleon crisp and n fraud are awful. There is no serous poll that has fraud or crisp gaining.
    DeSantis bigly!

  • It's Complicated

    May 19, 2022 at 10:18 am

Fried is a political anomaly, who won largely because about 200,000 GOP voters (based upon the CFO and AG races) did not continue down the ballot to vote in the Ag Commissioner race. She only beat Caldwell by 7,000 votes, which is a smaller margin than the 33,000 voter DeSantis had over Gillum.

The lesson learned is that those races down the ballot cannot be taken for granted in any election.

  • Impeach Biden

    May 19, 2022 at 12:59 pm

Fried thought she could plaster her face on a gas pump sticker and use her Ag job to become Governor. She also thought she could bully and smear DeSantis with her “fake scientist” and mentally deranged buddy Rebekah Jones. Looking forward to November when she is ousted as Ag Commissioner. Tired of all her negativity. Bye Nikki.

Hey Nikki, you do understand there is a primary first, right? You aren’t even going to get past Charlie Crist because you literally spend 150% of the publicity you get attacking DeSantis.
