Tim Scott clashes with Ron DeSantis over Florida slavery curriculum

Florida education becomes an Iowa issue.

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina has criticized fellow Republican presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for supporting new standards that require teachers to instruct middle school students that slaves developed skills that “could be applied for their personal benefit.”

“What slavery was really about was separating families, about mutilating humans and even raping their wives. It was just devastating,” Scott, the sole Black Republican in the Senate, told reporters on Thursday after a town hall in Ankeny. “So I would hope that every person in our country — and certainly running for president — would appreciate that.”

“People have bad days,” Scott added. “Sometimes they regret what they say. And we should ask them again to clarify their positions.”

DeSantis has been facing criticism from Florida teachers, civil rights leaders, President Joe Biden’s White House and even Black Republicans on the school standards. Vice President Kamala Harris, the nation’s first Black vice president, traveled to Florida last week to condemn the curriculum.

DeSantis fired back on Friday, saying that “part of the reason our country has struggled is because D.C. Republicans all too often accept false narratives, accept lies that are perpetrated by the left.”

Campaigning in Iowa, he added that he was “defending” Florida “against false accusations and against lies. And we’re going to continue to speak the truth.”

The back-and-forth marked a shift in campaign styles for both DeSantis and Scott, who have not directly critiqued each other and have instead focused much of their antagonism toward President Joe Biden. It also comes as DeSantis’ effort has endured a mid-campaign reset, making staffing cuts to accommodate campaign expenses.

So Tim Scott sees the light when it comes to DeSantis’s attack on Black people in Florida, but he’s okay with DeSantis attacking LGBTQ+ children and adults. What a coward, sticking up for Black history on the one hand and hiding behind religion on the other.

A South Carolina politician calling DeSantis out over his attacks on LGBTQ+ folks, that is a job for Lindsay Graham. Not that he will do it, but he should be doing that.

Pro-Slavery DeSScumtis is finally too much for a few Republicans. Pro-Fascism remains OK.

“Looser” is not the spelling of the word you were groping for, Earl: loser.
“Looser” means your pants fit differently now that someone (definitely not you) has shed 10 pounds of bullshit. “Loser” is someone who can’t win.
And too many words, Earl. Always too many words. It sounds like you are masturbating. Wackety wacky wacky wack. Etcetera.

And “loooser” (often in italics and with an exclamation point or two) means a super-dooper loser.

It’s clear that Ron DeSantis knew that these revisionist slavery principles were part of Florida’s academic curriculum! If he didn’t know or didn’t agree with the dogma he would have immediately told the academic board to delete the offensive statements!

Like Trump ….. right or wrong ….. DeSantis will never apologize.

Let’s remember the way DeSantis thinks!

I think DeSSlantis should claim to be the reincarnation of JC . . . JC Calhoun.
It’s no more outrageous than claiming to be God’s Chosen Warrior.

    Thanks Bevs,
Reasearch has proven that the leftists only send in the spelling/grammer Police after I, Earl Pitts American, hit a “homerun” posting of great truth, knowledge, and wisdom.
Basically we have proven beyond a shadow of doubt that it is 100% the great truth, knowledge, and wisdom which triggers the leftist brain much like finger nails scraping accross a chalkboard.
    As for the brevity aspect:
Kind of the same thing as reaserch, has again proven, the leftist brain can only hold a miniscule amount of information and more than 2 or 3 sentences causes painfull LBO (leftist brain overload).
Thank you Bevs you have greatly honored me, Earl Pitts “Part-Time Brain Scientist” American, love ya girl.

Can DeSSlantus get any worse? Sure he can.
I next expect a demand for reverse reparations to pay for that vocational training.

The French Foreign Legion encountered, fought, and were impressed by units of black women warriors in subsaharan Africa.

The Red Tail P-51 pilots stuck with and protected the bombers–their assigned job. White P-51 pilots ababdoned the bombers to go dogfight Germans and try to become aces.

Do DeSSlantis’s standards talk about the happy slaves singing all day as they worked?
Part of the instructional material could be a musical.
