Whip out the checkbooks, PAC chairs and Tallahassee lobbyists, for this week begets a handful of fundraisers for legislative candidates.
Since state law prohibits legislators from raising money during session, every week leading up to March 3 gaveling in of the annual lawmaking period will be packed with fundraising receptions. A number of them are conveniently just a few hundred feet from the Capitol offices.
This week’s events include an event in Tallahassee on Monday for state Rep. Bill Hager for his 2016 re-election to Palm Beach County’s House District 89, which covers Boca Raton, Delray Beach and the Palm Beach County coast to the city of Palm Beach.
On Wednesday, Deltona Republican Rep. David Santiago will hold an afternoon luncheon fundraiser from 12 -1:30 p.m. at the Florida Realtors Conference Room, 200 South Monroe Street in Tallahassee.
At about the same time, Republican candidate Paul Renner will be fundraising for his campaign for the House District 24 special election. Renner is seeking to replace State Rep. Travis Hutson, who won the GOP special election primary for Senate District 6. That event 11:45 a.m. – 12-:45 p.m. at the Florida Insurance Council, 150 S.Monroe St. Suite 206.
Later that afternoon, Republican House Majority Leader Dana Young of Tampa and Rep. Jeanette Nuñez of Miami hold an all-female-hosted event after a full day of committee hearings. Both are seeking re-election for a fourth term. Young represents South Tampa’s District 60; Nuñez represents Miami-Dade’s District 119. The event will be 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Bascom Communications, 217 South Adams Street.
