Reggie Fullwood led a crowd of friends and supporters to the polls on Saturday to highlight the beginning of Early Voting in his state House District 13 special election.
In doing so, he may have made a legitimate dent in the final election tally — Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland says his office is expecting a turnout of around eight percent of eligible voters.
Fullwood, whose tenure in the House technically lapsed last month after a special election was ordered owing to lack of any qualified candidates, is likely to win handily in a decidedly Democratic-leaning district over Republican Lawrence “Jeff” Jefferson, who has raised a meager $3,275 to Fullwood’s nearly $140,000, according to the Florida Division of Elections.
“I am humbled and grateful for the outpouring of support our campaign received on Saturday,” said Fullwood in a statement on Monday. “The best way to make real change in our community is to make our voices heard at the ballot box to ensure we have elected officials with the community’s best interests at heart. I’m proud of the positive ideas our campaign has put forward and look forward to advocating on behalf of the people of District 13 in Tallahassee after the election.”
