Day 2 of the Health Care Affordability Summit in Orlando is slated for only half a day but the lineup packs a punch.
Here are three things to look for:
- A discussion on the future of the $2 billion Low Income Pool. The keynote address will be delivered by Elliot Fishman, director of the Children and Adults Health Programs Group in the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. As such he leads CMS’s activities around, among other things, comprehensive waiver services. The LIP program is slated to expire June 30 and Florida is negotiating with the federal government to keep the waiver intact.
- Justin Senior. You can look but you won’t be able to find him. The Agency for Health Care Administration on Monday confirmed on Monday that Senior, the Deputy Secretary for Medicaid, will not attend the conference on Tuesday because of a conflict in Tallahassee. AHCA spokeswoman Shelisha Coleman said Senior will be making a presentation before the House Health Care Appropriations Committee. He was slated to discuss “the new realities of health coverage in Florida,” including health exchanges and new insurance products.
- A discussion on managing costs for expensive drugs and pharmaceuticals. One of the most hotly contested legislative battles last year involved circumventing step therapies and prior authorization for pharmaceuticals. The bill was championed by the Florida Medical Association and it remains a priority for the doctor’s organization again this year.
The summit is sponsored by the Foundation of Associated Industries of Florida.
