Florida Technology Council names inaugural members, executive director

Florida Technology Council, the newest association focused on the state’s fast-growing technology sector, announced today its finalized inaugural board of directors.

Founded July 2014, the FTC will advocate on behalf of the state’s information technology industry before both the legislative and executive branches. Founding members are AT&T, SAS, Uber Operations, Kyra InfoTech, Scholastic, Five Points Technology Group and CNLBank.

“These organizations are leading the way in the information technology (IT) sector,” FTC Chairwoman Claudia Davant said. “We look forward to working closely with them to ensure Florida is on the cutting edge of IT and the public policy governing this industry.”

Tallahassee-based technology consultant James Taylor will be the council’s interim executive director. In a prepared statement released today, Taylor noted that although Florida is a national leader for IT job growth, the industry has had no dedicated voice in Tallahassee.

“At the rate our IT sector has grown,” he said, “it deserves, and requires, an undistracted attention that has not been delivered.”

The formation of the Florida Agency for State Technology comes at the right time, Taylor said, for the industry to receive the undivided attention it deserves.

“Starting today, the Florida Technology Council will be aggressively advocating on behalf of the IT industry in the State of Florida before the legislative and executive branches,” he said.
