CSX Corp. has promoted its top operations executive to be the railroad’s president, but Michael Ward will remain CEO and chairman.

The Jacksonville-based railroad announced the executive changes Wednesday.

Oscar Munoz, who joined CSX in 2003, is now the railroad’s president and chief operating officer. He will oversee operations, sales, human resources and information technology.

Munoz previously worked at AT&T, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.

Ward remains the top executive at the railroad, but will give up the president title.

CSX also promoted Cindy Sanborn to be executive vice president of operations. The 25-year CSX veteran will report to Munoz.
