Only two State Capitals have Holocaust monuments.

The Florida Department of Management Services and the Florida Legislative Jewish Caucus will host a public viewing of the Florida Holocaust Memorial at Memorial Park in Tallahassee on Tuesday.

Only two State Capitals have Holocaust monuments: Florida and Ohio. This project took eight to nine years to complete through a bipartisan collaboration between former Sen. Eleanor Sobel’s sponsorship and funding secured during Don Gaetz’s term as Senate President in the 2010s.

The legislation authorizing the Florida Holocaust Memorial was passed in the 2016 Session and signed by former Gov. Rick Scott. Sobel sponsored the bill (SB 716) while now-U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz carried the House companion (HB 513).

Memorial Park is located on the Northeast corner of Monroe Street and Apalachee Parkway. The public viewing begins at 2 p.m.
