Meg Weinberger drives effort to name portion of Southern Boulevard after Donald Trump

The legislation would rename portions of the Palm Beach County roadway 'President Donald Trump Boulevard.'

A portion of Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County will be renamed after President Donald Trump thanks to a piece of legislation that will soon be making its way to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk.

The renaming would cover a 4-mile portion of Southern Boulevard from Kirk Road to Mar-a-Lago — often used by the presidential motorcade — and would be renamed “President Donald Trump Boulevard.”

Trump often travels between his home in Mar-a-Lago and the White House. He spent time in South Florida this past weekend, marking his 10th visit since taking office for his second term in January.

Lake City Republican state Rep. Chuck Brannan and Port Charlotte Republican state Rep. Danny Nix introduced the measure (HB 987) that will rename portions of Florida’s highways after various honorees, including Trump.

Royal Palm Beach Republican state Rep. Meg Weinberger co-sponsored the legislation and told Florida Politics in a statement that it was an honor to get the bill passed.

“I am truly honored to have co-sponsored the recent legislation passed by the Florida Legislature to rename an eastern portion of Southern Boulevard ‘President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.’ This honor reflects the sentiments of my fellow Floridians who appreciate his dedication to our state and country,” Weinberger said.

Weinberger said she is proud to support Trump and the America First Agenda and to reward the president with the honor.

“President Trump is the greatest President in our lifetime, and I am proud that he will be memorialized forever on the eastern part of Southern Boulevard,” Weinberger said. “I am even more proud and honored to announce that a western section of Southern Boulevard will be designated as ‘PBSO Motorman Highway.'”

The renaming is a tribute to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office motorcycle deputies Ignacio ‘Dan’ Diaz, Cpl. Luis Paez, and Ralph ‘Butch’ Waller, who were tragically killed last November in a roadside collision.

“Their sacrifice serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers faced by those who protect our communities. By recognizing their legacy, we continue to support and honor the brave men and women of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office,” Weinberger said. “Together, these acknowledgments highlight our commitment to honoring leadership, sacrifice, and service in our state. I hope you will join me in always supporting the brave men and women of law enforcement and all of our first responders.”

The House passed the bill Wednesday by a unanimous vote. The Senate followed suit Thursday. If approved by the Governor, the highway would take up its new name on July 1.

Other designations include various roads, highways and bridges in Bradford, Broward, Charlotte, Duval, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Orange, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Seminole and Walton counties.

Honorees listed include the late former U.S. Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, former state Sens. James Sebesta and Geraldine Thompson, former Miami Commissioner Manolo Reyes, Sonia Castro, “Queen of Salsa” Celia Cruz, Jacksonville businessman Harry Frisch, hotelier and philanthropist Harris Rosen, and fishing legend Jose Wejebe.

Law enforcement and military members were also honored, including SPC Daniel J. Agami, Sheriff Gary S. Borders, Sergeant Elio Diaz, Master Deputy Bradley Link, Master Patrol Officer Jesse Madsen, Deputy William May, Staff Sergeant Matthew Sitton and Sergeant Karl Strohsal.

The Florida Department of Transportation would be responsible for installing the new markers to reflect the new honorary names.

If the road was crooked as a dog’s hind leg, it would make sense.

Looking forward to the renaming of Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) to Trump Intl and watching the Tesla firebombers lose their minds.

I predict this will be the second most stolen road sign in Florida. After Jimmy Buffett’s.

I, EARL PITTS AMERICAN, approve of naming the road after President Trump. I turned down the honor to have a road in Florida renamed “The EARL PITTS AMERICAN Way” as I was concerned the signs would be stolen to proudly adorn my fans Man Caves & She Sheds.
