Gas in Florida is cheaper than it’s been all year — and through all of last year.
On Monday, the average price for a gallon of gas in the Sunshine State was $2.92, the lowest daily average since December 2023, according to AAA — The Auto Club Group.
The price is 18 less than a week ago, 22 cents less than a month ago and 54 cents less than this time last year.
AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins attributed the 17-month low to worry over trade and a potential long-term economic downturn.
“Prices dipped due to fears that the trade war could trigger a recession and reduce fuel demand,” he said in a statement.
“However, reports of easing tensions pushed oil prices higher last week, which could result in rising prices at the pump.
The U.S. price for crude oil started at $57.13 per barrel last week and rose 5% to $61 by Friday, similar to April’s price levels.
Gasoline futures, meanwhile, gained 9 cents.
The best metropolitan markets in Florida to fill up your tank are Panama City and the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach areas, where the average price for a regular gallon of gas Monday morning was $2.78, followed by Pensacola and Punta Gorda ($2.82).
The most expensive markets are Gainesville and the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area ($3.04), followed by Naples ($3.02).
Nationally, the cheapest gas can be found in Mississippi ($2.63), Louisiana ($2.69) and Oklahoma ($2.69).
The steepest pump prices are in California ($4.90), Hawaii ($4.49) and Washington ($4.28).
