Governmental affairs expert Fátima Perez is the new chief of staff for the City of Miami Beach.

Perez, who brings more than 15 years of governmental affairs and lobbying experience, is joining the Office of the Mayor and Commission in its push to move Miami Beach forward. She starts her new role on Feb. 23.

“I am confident Fátima’s work ethic and professional experience will be an asset to our office and our city,” Mayor Philip Levine said in a statement.

Prior to joining the Miami Beach staff, Perez served in both the private sector, state legislative and municipal levels of government, including a stint as senior adviser to former City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and as senior legislative aide in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives.

Perez also received the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility Young Hispanic Corporate Achiever Award in 2005 and was chosen as a Hispanic Women of Distinction.

Alex Miranda, who has served as chief of staff since 2013, and as former campaign manager for Mayor Levine, will return to Tallahassee for a position in the Republican Party of Florida, House Majority 2016. He will also continue his pursuit of a Juris Doctorate degree.

“I want to thank Alex for all his dedication and commitment to the City of Miami Beach and wish him the very best in all his future endeavors,” Levine added.
