Gov. Scott announces 16 regulatory board appointments

On Wednesday, Gov. Rick Scott announced 16 appointments – including 12 reappointments – to a variety of state regulatory boards. All the following are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Florida Commission on Community Service (Volunteer Florida)

Scott announced two appointments and three reappointments to the Florida Commission on Community Service (Volunteer Florida), which strengthens communities through national service and volunteerism.

Sarah “Sam” Seevers, 56, of Destin, is owner and editor of Life’s a Beach Publications and the former mayor of Destin. She fills a vacant seat for a term ending September 14, 2017.

Kelli Walker, 50, of Tallahassee, is director of volunteer and community involvement for the Florida Department of Education. She fills a vacant seat for a term ending September 14, 2015.

Vance Aloupis, 31, of Aventura, is state director for the Children’s Movement of Florida. His reappointment is for a term ending September 14, 2017.

Maritza Rovira Forino, 64, of Tampa, is the business development manager for Foresight Construction Group Inc. She is reappointed for a term beginning February 24, 2015, and ending September 14, 2017.

Sherry Wheelock, 45, of Windermere, is president and chief executive officer of Special Olympics Florida. Her reappointment is for a term ending September 14, 2017.

Florida State College at Jacksonville District Board of Trustees

Scott then reappointed Karen Bowling to the Florida State College at Jacksonville District Board of Trustees.

Bowling, 59, of Jacksonville Beach, is director of public affairs for Foley & Lardner LLP. Her reappointment is for a term ending May 31, 2018.

Florida Transportation Commission  

Scott also announced the reappointments of Maurice Ferre and Kenneth Wright to the Florida Transportation Commission, a nine-member commission to evaluate, review, and make recommendations on Florida transportation policies, initiatives or revisions. Each reappointment is for a term ending September 30, 2018.

Ferre, 79, of Miami, is former Mayor of Miami from 1973-1985. He previously served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives, Miami City Commission and Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners. Ferre currently serves on the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Miami-Dade.

Wright, 65, of Winter Park, is an attorney and partner with Shutts & Bowen LLP. He previously served as chair of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and of the Florida Environmental Regulation Commission.

Santa Fe College District Board of Trustees

Scott made one appointment and four reappointments to the Santa Fe College District Board of Trustees.

George “Blake” Fletcher, 32, of Gainesville, is chief operating officer of Fletcher Family Companies. He succeeds Bessie Jackson for a term ending May 31, 2017.

Caridad “Carrie” Lee, 63, of Alachua, is vice president of Florida Woodland and owner of Florida Blue Farms Inc. Her reappointment is for a term ending May 31, 2018.

Arley McRae, 80, of Starke, served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1986 and retired as a Colonel. He currently serves as the director of the Bradford Food Pantry for Bradford Ecumenical Ministries. His reappointment is for a term beginning February 25, 2015, and ending May 31, 2017.

Jeffrey Oody, 45, of Starke, is the president and director of Community State Bank. His reappointment is for a term ending May 31, 2018.

Robert Woody, 61, of Gainesville, is a retired deputy secretary of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. His reappointment is also for a term ending May 31, 2018.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County

Lastly, Scott announced the appointment of Susan Rolston and reappointments of Brian Aungst Jr. and Dr. James Sewell to the Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County.

Rolston, 63, of St. Petersburg, is a retired chief executive officer of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Pinellas County. She succeeds Angela Holmes Rouson for a term ending August 11, 2018.

Aungst, 30, of Clearwater, is an attorney and shareholder with Macfarlane, Ferguson, McMullen. His reappointment is for a term ending August 7, 2018.

Sewell, 64, of St. Petersburg, is a retired assistant commissioner for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. His reappointment is for a term ending August 11, 2018.
