Sam Mousa Budget Meetings

The afternoon slate of transition budget team leader Sam Mousa‘s budget meetings related to the Lenny Curry mayoral transition continues with the Ethics Office and Carla Miller.

1:17 p.m.: The usual review of the budget pages. No revenues and salaries are up $20,000 (a new employee). Pension contribution up $28,000.

1:21 p.m.: Mousa wants to know how much of the work is ethics training and advice. It is about 90 percent of what the department does. There is one enforcement case a year; usually, they kick those investigations to the state level. Preventive action is the phrase that pays.

1:23 p.m.: Mousa wants to know how decisions are made regarding how to address an issues. There is an online procedure.

1:24 p.m.: Susie Wiles just popped in and called Mousa out of the room, as Miller continues answering his question.

1:26 p.m.: Wiles and Mousa have returned, as Mike Weinstein talks about he and Miller starting in city government in 1075 together. Miller: “We were young.”
