About 200 supporters and onlookers joined with Gov. Rick Scott to urge lawmakers to pass the governor’s priorities, including a tax cut and more spending for business incentives.
Supporters, including a few dozen casino employees who took a field trip to Tallahassee Wednesday the casino workers stood on as Scott said his administration’s regime of low taxes and recruiting out-of-state business is working.
“We’ve cut taxes 50 times in the last five Sessions. And what’s happened? Our revenues are growing,” said Scott. “Our general revenues are up this year over $1 billion.”
Scott also sought to allay lawmakers’ reservations about his proposed $1 billion tax cut package, saying there would be “significant” reserves in the budget even after the reductions.
Scott implored the public to reach out to their legislator and ask them to support both his tax cuts and his proposal to appropriate $250 million for Enterprise Florida, the state’s public-private business promotion arm.
“Everybody is going to their offices right now, saying they want money allocated this way or that way,” said Scott, referring to the frenzy of budget-related action now taking place at the Capitol. “I want money allocated for jobs.”
