Jamie Shelton to replace John Rood on JAXPORT board

Looks like gambling executive Jamie Shelton will be the city of Jacksonville’s “best bet” to replace John Rood on the JAXPORT board.

The office of Mayor Lenny Curry will be advancing his name to replace Rood, multiple sources in the mayor’s office confirmed.

“Jamie will bring a great deal of experience to the JAXPORT Board,” said Curry. “His leadership and service demonstrate a strong commitment to the growth of our city, and its people.”

Shelton has been a fixture at City Hall, lobbying for the November referendum to allow bestbet’s Arlington location to add up to 2,000 slot machines.

The City Council will have final approval.

But given their 18-1 vote authorizing the slot referendum, and given that the majority of council members accepted campaign money from one or another of Shelton’s enterprises, resistance should be minimal.
