Arriving in local mailboxes on the day of the first televised debate among mayoral candidates, a new mailer from the Florida Democratic Party slams Lenny Curry as a “Republican party boss” who “ran the Republican Party” and now “wants to run Jacksonville.”
Contending that Curry is a “Republican Party Leader. Not for Us,” the mailer asserts that “of all the Republicans you know, Lenny Curry was in charge of the entire Republican Party in Florida. Now he wants to be your mayor.“
The mailer has a picture of Rick Perry, which makes sense given that the Texas governor was an early supporter of Curry, calling him a “transformational candidate.” Perry will be in town for a pro-Curry rally later this month.
Less obvious is the reason for the picture of Sarah Palin, whose connection to Curry doesn’t seem to extend beyond party identification.
The mailer reiterates claims made in a recent television ad from the same source, charging Curry with having “led a statewide effort to block the voting rights of hundreds of thousands of African-American voters” and with “backing billionaire polluters … who own a paper mill that dumps tens of millions of gallons of polluted wastewater into the St. Johns River every day.”
