We were the first to report that Republican Jimmy Holderfield, who lost narrowly in Jacksonville’s First Election Tuesday to Mike Williams and Ken Jefferson, is holding off on endorsing either of his opponents at the present time. That said, endorsements now are starting to fall into place.
To no one’s surprise who saw their convivial interactions at forums, Lonnie McDonald has endorsed Williams for sheriff. WJXT-TV 4 reports that McDonald released a statement saying, “Mike Williams will be a great sheriff for Jacksonville and he has my full support.”
Both McDonald and Williams are Republicans; at this point, the waiting game involves seeing which, if any, Republicans besides Holderfield fail to offer endorsements to Williams, who finished 15 points behind the first-place Jefferson in the election. The pace and order of endorsements by candidates who did not advance to the runoff will say volumes about the internal politics of the sheriff’s field itself.
