We just got a preview of a Lenny Curry comic produced by his volunteers for the Beaches Comic Con on Saturday, and it is well done. The themes are familiar to those closely following the Jacksonville mayoral campaign.
The first panel features the mayor at a press conference, saying that “crime has dropped 10% and is at a four decade low.” The second offers counterpoint, stating that “147 police officers have been cut by Alvin Brown’s budget.” The third panel shows a police car with flashing blues and crime scene tape in the foreground. Its message: “Crime is on the rise in Jacksonville.”
The fourth panel: an article from the local daily paper, discussing the 32 shootings and seven murders in Jacksonville in April. The scene of chaos is set for panels 5 and 6.
Panel 5 features a picture of Curry with a group of supporters: “Jacksonville needs true leadership in City Hall! As mayor, Lenny Curry will work to unite all of Jacksonville and make our city safe again!”
Panel 6: the call to action, to “vote Lenny Curry” during Early Voting or on Election Day.
Using classic American animation styles reminiscent of 20th Century DC Comics, it’s a political ad people likely will retain and pass around.
