Gov. Rick Scott was in Lakeland Friday to celebrate the launch of the newest Legoland Florida resort hotel.
Legoland Hotel will create about 150 new jobs in the area.
“We are excited to celebrate the grand opening of the new Legoland Hotel at the Legoland Florida Resort today,” Scott said. “Not only will this hotel encourage many more families to visit Florida, but it is also creating 150 new jobs for families in the Winter Haven area. Our tourism industry has provided more than 1 million Floridians with the opportunity to find a job and care for their families, and is keeping us on track to becoming the global destination for jobs.”
Scott was on hand for the grand opening.
“Tourism is Florida’s No. 1 industry, and the state leads the nation in visitors annually,” Scott said. “In the first quarter of 2015, more than 28 million visitors came to the state, which is an increase of 6.2 percent over the same period in 2014 and the highest amount of visitors of any quarter in the state’s history. Last year, more than 98 million visitors came to Florida.
The new hotel boasts 152 guest rooms and suites and features four themes: Pirate, Kingdom, Adventure and Lego Friends. All of the rooms feature a king-size bed, a bunk bed and a pull-out trundle.
Each room also has a kids’ only sleeping area so the grownups can have their own space.
“Legoland Florida Resort is continuously expanding, making it an awesome place for families with children to stay for multiple days,” said Legoland Florida Resort general manager Adrian Jones. “The addition of Legoland Hotel makes that possible. The hotel is a fully immersive experience, with a number of exclusive features unique to Legoland Florida Resort and we’re excited to welcome families to stay and play with us for the first time in Florida!”
The hotel has the only Lego Friends-themed guest rooms in the United States. There is also a Lego Friends-themed suite. Guests at the hotel also have perks for the theme park its named after. There are free breakfast, interactive play areas and nighttime entertainment.
There’s also a “disco” elevator and a resort pool.
Rooms come with a Lego prize and a Lego brick to build with. Rooms have two TVs, a mini-fridge and coffee maker, and Wi-Fi. Guests also get to enjoy early access to the theme park.
