Jeb Bush unveils new 2016 logo, callback to past campaigns

With only hours until announcing his long-awaited 2016 presidential campaign, Jeb Bush looks to the future — with a nod to his past.

On Sunday, Bush’s campaign tweeted out a new logo — “Jeb! 2016” — without the famous family name “Bush.”

For those who remember, Bush’s new campaign symbol was a clear callback to his previous runs for Florida governor in the 1990s. Others compared the logo — a first name before an exclamation point, to a similar style by Republican Lamar Alexander campaign for president in his 1996.

But it was not the first time Bush employed the logo. In his first (unsuccessful) race for Florida governor in 1994 against incumbent Lawton Chiles. Then, Bush used a similar style, one that also dissociated him from his well-known family.

He later revived the logo for his winning 1998 gubernatorial campaign.
