Is CLC the Waldo of Florida politics?

Carlos Lopez-Cantera, Rick Scott

Lawton had Buddy.

Jeb had Frank Brogan and Toni Jennings.

Charlie had the guy with the mustache.

Each LG, in his or her own right, played a role – many times a significant role – in shaping public policy, in coaxing legislative deals and having a very real job in the process. Heck, Bobby Brantley even served the dual role of being the Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of the Florida Department of Commerce.

So where does that put the current occupant?

According to Tuesday’s news gaggle, he played no role (none, zippo, nada) in the decision-making that led up to the budget’s face beating. According to his own calendar, he worked only 35 hours in April and under 13 hours in May. And so far this month, he has put in only eight measly hours.

So where is CLC? And what is he doing?

Isn’t this the guy that Rick Scott said has, “a great legislative background” and his “chief responsibility would be to secure passage of $500 million in fee and tax cuts”?

Cue the crickets.

And it’s not like CLC hasn’t been around or doesn’t know his way around the Capitol. He was, after all, the House Majority Whip and, later, the Majority Leader.

From all accounts – and someone please correct me if I am wrong here – but it looks like our beloved governor has made an otherwise credentialed No. 2 the Where’s Waldo of Florida politics.

I think that’s a shame.
