Jason Gabriel has been with the city of Jacksonville’s General Counsel office since 2010. And, at least in the first few months of the Lenny Curry administration, Gabriel, the current General Counsel, will continue.
Mayor-elect Curry said Thursday that he has appointed the current Jacksonville general counsel to stay on up to 90 days as acting general counsel.
“In order for there to be continuity and an orderly operation of the Office of General Counsel, I have decided to make this 90-day appointment,” Curry said.
The Qualification Review Committee will recommend a permanent general counsel for review and approval in the near future.
“I am very appreciative that Mayor-elect Curry has put his trust in me to continue to serve this great city. This is a continued honor and privilege, and as I’ve mentioned before, I feel a tremendous sense of responsibility that comes with this role. I look forward to assisting with the transition and serving the consolidated city of Jacksonville,” Gabriel said in a prepared statement.
One salutary benefit of Gabriel staying on is that he is conducting the review of anti-discrimination ordinances, at the behest of Mayor Alvin Brown, in order to give the new city council guidance on how to proceed regarding potential anti-discrimination legislation.
