Despite Roll Call report, Jeff Miller insists he has not yet decided on Senate run

Rep. Jeff Miller has not decided on a U.S. Senate bid, despite at least one newspaper saying he is not only considering a run, but will announce it as soon as next week.

Although Miller said he is leaning toward the Sen. Marco Rubio’s seat, as the Republican runs for president, he is not ready to declare anything.

“While I continue to seriously consider running for the U.S. Senate,” the Chumuckla Republican told reporters through a spokesman, “a final decision has not been made and no date has been set for any announcement at this time.”

On Wednesday, Roll Call reported – citing two sources – that Miller decided to run and would become the “third Republican to officially enter the contest” next week.

If Miller, who turns 56 this weekend, launches a campaign, he would join a field of GOP candidates with little name recognition, led by Ponte Vedra Beach U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis, a Tea Party favorite, is the only major Republican in the race; Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera is also considering a run.

In a new Quinnipiac University poll, reported by the Pensacola News-Journal, 81 percent of Florida voters said they don’t have enough information to form an opinion of DeSantis while 77 percent said the same for Lopez-Cantera. Miller’s name was not included.
