Florida Medical Association PAC (FMA PAC) is endorsing dermatologist Ralph Massullo in his bid for Florida House District 34.
In announcing the group’s support, FMA PAC President Chris Pittman noted the importance of supporting one of their own.
“As founder and president of his dermatology practice,” Pittman said Monday in a statement, “Dr. Massullo has a unique perspective on the economic boosts that physicians’ offices have on a local economy and the struggle that many private practice physicians face to stay independent. That insight will be valuable in helping shape healthcare policy on those issues in coming years.”
Massullo is a Republican, native of West Virginia, and has lived in Citrus County since 1989. The HD 34 seat includes all of Citrus and part of Hernando Counties. State Rep. Jimmie T. Smith currently represents the district.
Smith filed to run for Senate District 5.
“I am very grateful for the support of the FMA PAC in their endorsement of my campaign for the Florida State House of Representatives,” Massullo said. “I look forward to working with the FMA and our Legislature in promoting our goals of providing quality, cost efficient health care to the citizens of our state and preserving the patient-physician interface that is so vital to that cause.”
Massullo is currently running unopposed.
Established in 1974, FMA PAC is the political arm of Florida medical professionals, who seek statewide pro-medicine candidates. Through voluntary contributions, the FMA chooses candidates who will actively promote making Florida the best place to practice medicine. As Florida’s leading medical political committee, FMA raised more than $2.5 million during the 2014 election cycle.
