Rockefeller Foundation courts Jacksonville

The Rockefeller Foundation, via the 100 Resilient Cities initiative, seeks to “renew and reinvigorate [its] engagement with Jacksonville, and the City’s participation in the network.”

One condition applies: they “need to meet directly with the new Mayor first and understand interest and commitment,” according to an email from an officer with the Rockefeller Foundation subsidiary.

The group seeks a mid- to late September meeting with Lenny Curry, which has two objectives.

One: to  “meet to explain the program to Mayor Curry and understand his support for a partnership with 100RC and a resilience agenda for Jacksonville.”

Second: a mayors summit in Bellagio, Italy, the first week in October with the mayors of member cities. The group has 26 mayors confirmed to date, including mayors from New Orleans, Mexico City, Bangkok and Byblos.

At least in theory, budget should be in the rearview mirror in time for Curry to pack for Italy.

Very loosely, the 100 Resilient Cities project helps cities develop strategies and allies in efforts to mitigate 21st century issues ranging from violence and wealth disparity to infrastructural challenges.
