Rebecca Negron received the backing from a laundry list of local Republican leaders on Tuesday in her bid for Florida’s 18th Congressional District.

Negron, who is a member of the Martin County School Board and wife of state Sen. Joe Negron, is seeking the seat currently held by Democratic Congressman Patrick Murphy covering Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach Counties.

Citing a wide range of issues, from the economy to education, Negron’s new endorsements came from Martin County REC Past Chair Susan Auld, Kate Boland and Sherry Pylmale, Martin County REC Past Chair Charlie Kane, Martin County Republican Diane McKechnie and St. Lucie County Republican Michael Hofstee.

Auld called Negron the right person to make Florida a destination for job creation, by helping build a sustainable economy.

“It is important to me that we continue to push for smaller government, individual liberties and fiscal responsibility in Washington,” Boland added.

As a member of the Martin County School Board, Plymale believes Negron understands the importance of keeping the federal government out of local school systems.

McKechnie said she was honored to endorse a friend and fellow Republican Leader in her “heroic” run for the open congressional seat.

Local support follows Negron’s endorsement by Maggie’s List, the federal political action committee committed to electing conservative women to federal office.

For the increasingly crowded GOP primary, Negron will face former State Rep. Carl Domino, St. Lucie County Commissioner Tod Mowery, retired U.S. Army bomb tech Brian Mast, financial adviser Paul Spain, and attorney/activist Rick Kozell. Democrats in the race include Palm Beach County Commissioners Melissa McKinlay and Priscilla Taylor, retired Stuart engineer John Xuna, and Palm Beach Gardens lawyer Jonathan Chane.
