Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs was favorable when asked whether she would support a ballot initiative that would go before the voters adding two districts to the current seven-member Orange County Commission. The Charter Review Commission has been considering a ballot initiative that would go before voters to add the seats.
“I think it’s a reasonable thing for them to be debating,” Jacobs told reporters after Tuesday’s commission meeting. “Personally, it’s a worthwhile debate. Leave it to the voters and let them decide.”
According to the Orange County government website, seven elected members serve four-year terms on the Board of County Commissioners including the mayor who is elected at large. The mayor and commissioners serve overlapping four-year terms. The mayors and commissioners for Districts 2, 4, and 6 are elected during alternate years (2006, 2010, 2014). Commissioners for Districts 1, 3, and 5 will be eligible for election next in the 2016 presidential election year.
