The first Jacksonville City Council meeting of September offers something for everyone.
Those who show up on time can expect Councilman Tommy Hazouri to deliver a proclamation honoring “the working men and women of Jacksonville” for their contributions to the civic good. Still waiting on the proclamation honoring those who are work-averse.
Those tuned in to the consent agenda will get hep to the swinging sounds of a Charlotte’s Web moratorium, in which a ban on dispensing in Jacksonville will be effective for 120 days from the date of the moratorium’s imposition, and cultivation, except in agricultural districts, will be banned for 90 days.
Police and Fire Pension Fund Head John Keane is ready to depart his position. But questions remain in front of this city council regarding the legality of the Senior Staff Voluntary Retirement Fund, which is poised to pay Keane nearly a quarter of a million dollars per year. The third reading resolution should be a big talker and hot quotes will abound from the discussion of 2014-769, a third reading resolution.
Less contentious, likely, the discussion of the third reading ordinance granting JEA an easement to install a new sewage line under Metro Park and an EverBank Field parking lot to support the 42″ Force Main River Crossing.
As well, the bill requiring Jacksonville policies to conform with FEMA’s regarding roadway clearance in the event of a catastrophic storm, in order to qualify for reimbursement, got most of its hiccups worked out in committee.
