In a crowded six way race among Republicans in HD 11, Donnie Horner is lapping the field in terms of fundraising. August’s haul of $7,675, though modest compared to previous months, nonetheless had a couple of noteworthy names, in the form of GOP powerbrokers Michael Munz and Peter Rummell.
Rummell gave $1,000 and Munz donated $500 on August 18. As well, Jacksonville Greyhound Racing, with whom Munz has a long standing relationship, anted up $1,000 for Horner on August 26.
Horner has traction, at a time when other candidates struggle.
Jack Daniels, a perpetual candidate, has yet to raise any funds. Barry Holloway from Bryceville, meanwhile, has just over $7,000 banked, but no money raised in August.
Tom Taylor‘s August numbers are not in yet, but he’s in the same $7,000 neighborhood as Holloway.
Cord Byrd likewise has not reported August numbers, and he only has about $8,000 banked.
The one candidate who has shown fundraising prowess, Sheri Treadwell, is exquisitely well-connected in the Duval GOP. The former Supervisor of Elections employee just gave birth to a beautiful daughter, and when I bumped into Treadwell a couple of weeks ago near City Hall, she had an envelope from the Fiorentino Group.
Her August numbers are not in yet either. But through July, Treadwell banked $32,000, which suggests that of everyone in this field, she’s the only one in a financial position (and with buy in from credible supporters) to stop Horner.
Treadwell/Horner is the binary contest to watch here.
