As Melissa Ross reported on Tuesday, Senator Aaron Bean is competing Saturday night in the 2015 First Coast Dancing with the Stars event supporting the Beaches Fine Arts Series.
But Senator Bean isn’t the only member of the Duval Delegation who has caught a case of Saturday Night Fever.
Senator Audrey Gibson is also slated to participate in the DwtS event. Senator Gibson graciously answered questions from Florida Politics on Wednesday.
This will be her first time in the First Coast Dancing with the Stars. However, she adds, “a few years ago I participated in a similar event for Volunteers in Medicine.”
Unlike in the case of Senator Bean, who did not have formal dance training growing up, Gibson relates that she took “ballet, tap, jazz dancing and pantomime expression dancing lessons, on Saturdays” when she was “about 10 or so to about 12 years old.
“My group largely performed at sorority and social events held at places like what was then called the Civic Auditorium downtown, now the Times Union Center. I also had the chance to perform on TV on what was called the Ken Knight Show, which showcased African American talent in Jacksonville and was part talk show,” Gibson said.
Gibson, when asked, noted that the primary difficulty in preparing for the contest was “scheduling between special Sessions, and conference travel and work. Ballroom dance has more accented steps than regular dancing (which I love to dance by the way). Good thing I work out a little since the practice and the steps of the routine are very physically demanding!”
Senators Gibson and Bean join a star-studded list of performers on Saturday night.
