Gov. Scott announces thirteen state board appointments

On Friday, Gov. Rick Scott announced twelve appointments and one reappointment to a variety of state regulatory boards.

Bradford County Development Authority

Scott began by announcing five appointments to the Bradford County Development Authority.

Patricia Evans, 42, of Starke, is community president of Bradford and Clay Counties for Capital City Bank. She fills a vacant seat and for a term ending March 10, 2019.

John Kevin Miller, 53, of Starke, is assistant publisher of the Bradford County Telegraph. He succeeds Dr. Virgil Berry and is appointed for a term beginning September 18, 2015, and ending November 29, 2017.

Dean Weaver, 60, of Starke, is a realtor for Watson Realty. He fills a vacant seat for a term ending March 24, 2017.

Kelley Dyal, 43, of Brooker, is an engineer with Clay Electric Co-op Inc. He fills a vacant seat for a term ending July 19, 2017.

Dr. Virgil Berry, 71, of Starke, is a chiropractic physician. He fills a vacant seat created by the passing of Charley Johns for a term ending July 24, 2017.

School Board of Levy County

Scott next named Brad Etheridge to the School Board of Levy County.

Etheridge, 40, of Williston, is the owner of Etheridge Cattle Company LLC and is currently serving on the National Cattlemen’s Beef Board and the Levy County Board of Adjustments. He is also a member of the Levy County Chamber of Commerce and founder of the Williston Future Farmers of America Foundation. Etheridge fills a vacancy created by the passing of Robert Philpot, for a term ending November 15, 2016.

Statewide Drug Policy Advisory Council

Scott next announced four appointments to the Statewide Drug Policy Advisory Council. The DPAC coordinates drug control efforts; provides information to the public about the problem of substance abuse and services available; and develop strategic programs and funding to coordinate state agency activities on drug control.

Dorothy “Dotti” Groover-Skipper, 59, of Tampa, is founder of HeartDance Foundation Inc and the divisional anti-trafficking coordinator for the Salvation Army Florida Divisional Headquarters. She fills a vacant seat for a term ending September 6, 2017.

Doug Leonardo, 44, of Lutz, is the executive director of BayCare Behavioral Health. He fills a vacant seat for a term ending September 6, 2017.

Peggy Sapp, 73, of Surfside, is president and chief executive officer of Informed Families. She fills a vacant seat for a term ending September 6, 2017.

Dr. John Van Delinder, 67, of Callahan, is executive director of the Sunshine State Association of Christian Schools. He fills a vacant seat for a term ending September 6, 2017.

Florida Virtual School Board of Trustees

Lastly, Scott announced two appointments and one reappointment to the Florida Virtual School Board of Trustees. Florida Virtual School is the nation’s largest online state public school.

Robert Gidel Sr., 63, of Windermere, is managing partner at Liberty Capital. He fills a vacant seat for a term ending September 10, 2017.

Iris Gonzalez, 39, of Tierra Verde, is corporate director of multicultural strategies at Bright House Networks. She fills a vacant seat for a term ending September 10, 2016.

Dame Dhyana Ziegler, 66, of Tallahassee, is the Garth C. Reeves Eminent Scholar Endowed Chair of Excellence in the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication at Florida A&M University. She is reappointed for a term ending September 10, 2019.
