Orlando State Senator and candidate for Florida’s 9th Congressional District, Darren Soto, sent out a fundraising email using GOP Presidential front runner Donald Trump’s stance on immigration as a call to action.
Titled “Can you believe what they’re saying?” the email, in part, says “Did you catch the debate last week? There was plenty of radical rhetoric, but this really stood out: Donald Trump doubled down on his position that we should round up and deport millions of immigrant families, including American-born children – U.S. citizens under our Constitution. He even said that America is the only country ‘dumb enough, stupid enough’ to have birthright citizenship.”
Soto them promises to fix the broken immigration system in a way that will honor Hispanic heritage, pointing to his work in the state legislature helping “DREAMers.”
Soto is one of several high-profile candidates in the Democratic primary to replace Alan Grayson in CD 9. Others include Grayson’s Girlfriend Dena Minning, Grayson’s former District Director Susannah Randolph, former State Rep. Ricardo Rangel, and businesswoman Valleri Crabtree.
On the Republican side, businessman Wayne Liebnitzky has filed.
The seat, which includes parts of Orange, Osceola, and Polk Counties, opened up after Grayson declared his candidacy for the Senate.
