Though the Lenny Curry administration contends that its decisions to remove people from boards, most notably Planning Commission Chairwoman Lisa King, are not politically driven, critics continue to question the administration .
One such criticism came in a Friday email from Judy Sheklin, president of the Jacksonville area National Organization for Women.
“I am writing to you regarding recent changes you have initiated on Jacksonville City Boards. As I’m sure you are aware, women are under-represented in local, state and national legislative bodies and as CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. The recent removals you have initiated have heavily impacted not only Democratic but women appointees. In almost all cases, you are replacing those board members with men,” Sheklin wrote.
“Nancy Soderberg, Lisa Strange Weatherby, Melody Bishop and Lisa King, (to name just a few), are highly qualified, experienced community members. It is disappointing that you are starting your administrative term with such clearly partisan actions. What happened to your pledge of unifying our city?”
