Florida’s a big, complex state. Different cities deal with different issues and often seem like they are on different planets.
For example, in conservative Jacksonville the City Council just signed off on a new budget that keeps taxes low and prioritizes public safety, big concerns in Duval.
Meanwhile, down in drowning Miami-Dade, Mayor Carlos Gimenez and county commissioners approved a $6.8 million budget that includes a $75,000 line item to hire a new “resiliency officer“ with an additional $300,000 budget to tackle the effects of sea level rise.
According to the Miami New Times, the move comes after environmental protests railing against the small size of the county’s sustainability office.
That begs the question: Besides Miami, the international city seen as one of the most vulnerable to the effects of rising oceans, how many other Florida municipalities even HAVE a sustainability office?
Here are some quick links we found at the statewide level.
