HD 16 State Rep. Charles McBurney, a Jacksonville Republican, is termed out for the 2016 election. However, he may have figured out his next move.

The 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission announced Friday that McBurney is one of a list of potential replacements for retiring judges Mallory Cooper and Lawrence Haddock Jr.

He’s not the only prominent Jacksonville politician on the list. Republican stalwart Lindsey Brock is a candidate, as well as Rhonda Peoples-Waters, a Jacksonville auto accident lawyer who has run for judge before.

Thirty-two people have filed to fill two positions, which creates a certain logistical challenge. The nominating committee meets Oct. 6 to narrow down the list, and interviews begin Oct. 19 in Chief Judge Mark Mahon‘s chambers.

Two candidates have emerged to replace McBurney in the House: Jason Fischer and Dick Kravitz.
